2024 Autumn Issue message
Where has 2024 gone? Staying busy really does make the time fly. Autumn is already here again, and that means, for most areas, mushroom season is starting up again. Millions of people are about to start foraging for wild mushrooms, while with the cooler weather (fingers crossed that it gets her soon) comes recipes for various savory dishes. Some people are pumpkin spice latte fanatics. My family are soup fanatics. Nearly every day in autumn I end up making either miso soup, or minestrone, chicken noodle, etc. All with a specialty mushroom twist of course!
I have had an interesting year. This journal has developed nicely and we are gaining contributors, both regular and new, which helps to make it feel like much less of a one-man circus. We transitioned to a free resource. Then we released our this new website, which allows people to read individual articles as well as download the pdf version of each issue. The mushroom industry has taught me so much, especially how even a field that appears small and seemingly unremarkable on the outside, can have tremendous depth and complexity.
I hope that the newcomers who have come across our journal and love mushrooms or are trying to make a business out of the venture, will continue to read and share our resources. “Japanese” in the name aside, the JEMJ is a professional resource for professional growers and hobbyists. Let’s continue to build a healthy and sustainable future together.
